What is Hate Crime
A hate crime is a racially-motivated crime which occurs when a person or party targets a victim because of his or her membership in a certain social group.
A few examples of those groups can include physical appearance, sex, religion, ethnicity, etc. Incidents of hate crimes can include physical assault, damage to property, bullying and harassment, verbal abuse or insults, etc.
Hate crimes have been around for centuries and they have been committed by both individuals and governments. A few well known occurrences of hate crime in the past can include The Nazi slaughter of the Jews, Slavery in America, and the roman persecution of the Christians.
Hate crimes can also have a great amount of psychological effects from depression and anxiety, to psychological trauma.
